Unsere Eröffnung wird dieses Jahr ein Parallel-Spektakel und ein kleiner Marathon werden: Sie findet als Online-Stream und in unseren drei Kinos statt! Zwei Jahrzehnte nach ihrem wegweisenden Film „Gendernauts“ (S. 29), freuen wir uns auf „Genderation“: Monika Treut geht zurück nach Kalifornien und besucht dort erneut die Gendernaut_innen Annie Sprinkle, Beth Stephens, Stafford, Sandy Stone, Susan Stryker und Max Wolf Valerio. Damals porträtierte die Doku als einer der ersten Filme überhaupt die Trans*-Bewegung in San Francisco. Seit 1999 ist viel passiert: Gentrifkation, 9/11, Trump. Wie gingen und gehen die Queer-Pionier_innen mit diesen politischen Entwicklungen um? Intensive Gespräche mit den Protagonist_innen reihen sich an szenische Eindrücke eines Road Movies. Die Reise führt jedoch nicht nur zurück, sondern mit einem bedeutungsvollen Ausblick auch in die Zukunft. Regisseurin Monika Treut wird in den Kinos anwesend sein. Aber auch online dürft ihr euch auf bekannte Gesichter freuen. Und auf überraschende Live-Häppchen!

The opening this year will be both a spectacle and a small marathon, with parallel screenings taking place online and in the three festival cinemas! Two decades after her groundbreaking film “Gendernauts” (p. 29) we are more than happy to present “Genderation”. Monika Treut goes back to California and revisits the gendernauts Annie Sprinkle, Beth Stephens, Stafford, Sandy Stone, Susan Stryker and Max Wolf Valerio. In 1999 “Gendernauts” was one of the first films ever to portray the trans* movement in San Francisco. A lot has happened since then: gentrifcation, 9/11, Trump. How have these queer pioneers dealt with such political developments? Intensive conversations with the protagonists are interposed with the scenic impressions of a road movie. It’s a journey that doesn’t only look back, but also into the future with a contemporary perspective. Director Monika Treut will be present in the cinemas. You can also look forward to seeing familiar faces online. And to surprising live tidbits!
